i can't i'm mormon

perhaps some of you have heard about the new t-shirts that were temporarily advertized on byu's the daily universe and being sold at http://icantimmormon.com. according to this article in the salt lake tribune,

Ramos launched the T-shirt venture after making an "I Can't" shirt for his non-Mormon sister in Las Vegas a few months ago.

the problem is that i bought a t-shirt with the phrase "i can't i'm mormon" on it in the early spring up in logan. furthermore, as far as i'm aware, i'm the only person in uvsc that has been wearing that shirt. chad ramos, the supposed "creator" of this t-shirt was in two of my classes earlier this year where he had seen me where the shirt. we talked often and he commented and laughed about my shirt. now he's claiming to have invented it.

now i'm not saying the shirt is my idea (if i see a "michael moore is fat" t-shirt, i'll sue), but i do think that the geniuses up in logan who first threw that line on a shirt should get their due reward.

chad ramos is a liar and is making money off someone else's idea. for those of you who know me and know that the shirt is not his creation, go to http://icantimmormon.com/contact/index.html and remind him of the thief that he is.

another book

i needed to throw in something that wasn't for school. this time it's another by chuck palahniuk, author of fight club, survivor, lullaby (which someone borrowed and apparently lost or doesn't care to return), invisible monsters, and choke. i've read about fifty pages of diary so far, and it seems it'll be another brilliantly twisted masterpiece.

well... it looks like sean hannity is on his way to balance happy valley. i'm not sure how this can be considered a balance when the conservative-right has dominated the podium here in happy valley. if anything, it was moore who would bring balance to the politcal force of happy valley.

well, not unless some uvsc stuents get their chance to censor him. i think it's great that our student body council chose to bring moore in. i don't necessarily agree with him. in fact, i think a lot of his work is full of 'it. he's fat and ugly. fahrneheit 9/11, while interesting, was pure anti-bush propaganda. i haven't seen his other documentaries, so i can't comment on those.

moore is big though (not just in the obese sense). in an election year, i can't think of a bigger (or fatter) speaker to bring in that is not directly involved with one of the presidential candidates. happy valley has had it's share of conserative speakers. that's all that happy valley has had. uvsc wants to bring in someone on the liberal left (albeit far-left) and people want to tar and feather joe vogel (uvsc sbo). i wonder how many of those who want moore out have even seen fahrenheit 9/11.

it's not a money issue. they'll get the money back from ticket-sales. it's not a tax issue. the money comes from student fees, not tax dollars. it shouldn't be an issue of the student body council upsurping students' rights. they're the people the student body voted to make these decisions/ it's a matter of happy valleians being to closed minded to consider letting an opposing view get a chance to speak.

if you disagree with moore. then make sure you're educated and disagree with him...

death cab for cutie

death cab for cutie played a free concert up at the university of utah tonight... and i went to see it. they were friggin awesome and once again, i almost got in a fight with some drunks. that's two death cab near-fights in a row!

booting and towing

over at provo pulse, there's a post about booting and towing in provo apartments... something that i've had to deal with lately. somebody has also made a booter-watch site to post pictures and stories of fascist booters.

anyways, here's my two stories i posted on provo pulse.


i've been booted twice already at the raintree apartments where i am a resident.

story one.
this was totally not my fault, but my response to the boot was. the temporary pass that was on the back window of my truck fell off in the sun one day. coming back from a friends apartment, i saw the precious boot on the front tire. after calling to get it removed, i found the fallen permit behind my seat. stupid me slaps the permit back on and lies to the boot-lord about it always being on. boot-lord pulls out his video camera, shows there was no permit on when he booted. realizing this was my lesson on "wo unto the liar for they shall pay a $40 fee", i forked up the $40 and got the boot removed.

story two.
this just happened last week. i returned home after work and needed to quickly change my clothes before running some errands. because of the packed parking lot at raintree, i decided to park my car outside my apartment. while it was not in a stall, there are no signs or red painting indicating a no parking zone, neither was i double parked. i chose to park here because people often park here to run in their apartments real quickly. as i got out of my car it was 10:40, i changed and ran back out at 10:45. what did i see? within those few minutes, the boot-lord had already placed a boot on my car (the note he left indicated 10:43).

i argued with the boot-lord about him booting my car so quickly. he bragged about his speed in being able to boot and/or tow a car and said that even though it was a few minutes, it was a fire hazard. somehow his logic was that if i had left my hazard lights blinking, it would have magically not been a firehazard. i asked him how long he'd take to tow if if i didn't pay to get the boot removed. he said it'd be at least two hours. somehow, this boot-lord's logic makes it a dangerous fire hazard for my car to be there for three minutes, but somehow it's ok for him to leave it there for a few hours. basically, the boot-lord was mentally retarded.

i found out after getting my boot removed that the university parking enforcement has a policy that they wait ten minutes before they tow or boot a car. that didn't happen. i should be able to appeal and get my $40 back.

what urks me the most with these boot-lords is that they won't remove the boots without the money... no matter how wrong they are. they make us take the burden of their stupidity and force us to go through a lame (over two-week) appeal process if we want our money back. these guys are taking advantage of poor college students who can't afford to lend $40 to these greedy bastards for a couple weeks.

i wish i knew of your campaign sooner, cuz i would have definitely taken a picture of this mentally handicapped boot-lord.

new ward

this ward may not be as bad as i thought it was going to be. for a while, it looked like things were going to suck. people here break off into these stupid cliques. luckily, i'm included, but i don't really care to be. when i hang out with them, they just stick to themselves and don't really break out or include others.

some of the move-ins seem to be pretty cool.. especially one of the girls i hung out with for a while tonight.


school is going pretty good so far. it's great to be in the uppper-level classes, away from the retards in the first level generals. i actually feel like i'm in college now. i somehow tend to do better in these classes as well... prolly cuz i like them more... and i kinda like the challenge

it does seem that he's been reading my site for quite a while though. perhaps he's some pussy i know. oh well. would be fun to meet him, share an icecream cone, and then kick him in the nuts.

new semester

i've been pretty busy and haven't had much free time to update this thing.

the new semester has started. all of my credits are philosophy classes (metaphysics, phenomenology & existentialism, intro to christian theology, history of analytic philosophy, and philosphy forum), so i think i'll really enjoy it. although i have a ton of reading i'll be doing this semester.

work is going pretty good. i just got promoted to being the front-end supervisor, so that'll mean more pay and more hours.

with work, school, and studying, i'll be pretty busy this semester.

my classes actually have quite a good count of pretty girls this semester. i thought it would be lacking since it's all upper-level philosophy classes, but i was wrong. this should mean that they are smart and pretty. the girl i met at the religious studies roundtable last spring and took out one night is in my intro to christian theology class. maybe i could try taking her out again.

got a whole lotta reading to do

these begin the 16 or so books i'll have to read this semester. luckily they are not textbooks, but are books i prolly would have eventually read in my spare time some day. i'd like to add a novel to the list, but i'm not sure if i'll have time to squeeze one this semester.

i finished angels & demons today. it was a fun read (although i liked the da vinci code a little more). the book did frustrate me several times though. brown kept using the word symbology when he should have used symbolism. brown's describing creatio ex nihilo as the issue in the theism/atheism debate is just stupid (if anything, it's the lack of evidence for god and the problem of evil that are the key issues in the debate). langdon saying that christianity got the idea of communion from the aztecs and the idea of the sacrificial god from quetzaquatl is pathetic considering christianity has had these key elements since the first centuries and christianity didn't encounter the new world until the 15th century. looking past these and a few other issues, the book was a fun read with several good (and sometimes predicatable) twists.

i also finished kant's prolegomena. now that was a tough read. if you ever thought sentances in the book of mormon were long, check this book out. i swear some sentances lasted a whole page.
