new book

choke - chuck palahniuk

ok, a tale of two cities just bored me too much. the story was getting better, but it just dragged on. does dickens need to waste so much of my time to get so little through? maybe i'll finish it another day. i don't always have a long time to read. when i have the time, i wanna feel like i made some headway into whatever i'm reading.

next up is choke by my favorite author, chuck palahniuk

  1. Hey Loyd, I haven't talked to you lately so I thought I'd check and see what you were up to. Hope things are great.

Anyway, interesting that you say that about Tale of Two Cities, you're dead on- when dickens first wrote the story, he published it chapter by chapter in a London newspaper (a popular thing to do back in the day when people still read newspapers...eh, and books too...)- so he was getting paid by the word. Hence the very verbose, wordiness of the book and the fact that it takes insanely long to get to the actual story. Ah, even a genius like Dickens was a sell out. Doesn't inspire much hope for the rest of society eh.

    See ya!
