sunstone symposium

once again, the time has come to join a bunch of people three times my age to discuss things mormon. as i've mentioned before, last year was my first time and i thoroughly enjoyed it. while some may consider it the fertilizer of apostacy, my experience was quite the opposite. i left it renewed and filled with a love for the gospel and mormonism.

this year's schedule (july 28-30) is packed with what seem to be excellent presentations. rather than mention the dozen or so i want to see, you can check out the schedule for yourself here. like last year, students are free.

  1. The Sunstone Symposium looks like a good lineup--several forums on the subject of doubt as part of faith, reason as part of spiritual belief, and other things which you have been thinking so much about. And for "fun" there's even that forum about how "S" for Single is the Mormon Scarlet Letter.

And even though I'm almost twice your age, I can relate to the "youngest guy in the room" thing. That's what I was mostly during a recent trip to Illinois to see all the Abraham Lincoln things. Only when I got to Nauvoo was there a good mix of ages--but even there it was mostly senior missionaries running things. (And I can't tell you how many times I was asked, "No wife? No kids?")

  2. i'll have to find someone to come along so i'm not the only kid there. someone was planning on coming with me, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

sunstone originally started out as the efforts of a group of college students. however, if they don't get more going.... everyone but me will die off in a few years
