My thoughts on Christmas music #2
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
Joy to the world, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
This is not a Christmas song - it's about Christ's millennial reign. It's about his second coming, not his first.
I really like this, Loyd. Much better than the crapmas song I have stuck in my head. (I have nothing against Christmas, nor Christmas music, for the most part but let's just go over the line that won't disappear)
ReplyDelete"It's Christmas, and I want everything. Christmas, I want everything." That's been playing in 2 different stores while I've been in them, and each time I've had to leave. Christmas is about the only time during the year I want to be religious, if only because it serves my indignation at consumerism in the name of jesus.
But the Handel descant to this song is tooooo perfect not to be able to sing it over and over all December.
ReplyDeletewell he couldn't have a second coming if he didn't come the first time. so whatev' it so works for christmas.
